DOL's mission is to protect public health, safety, and welfare through licensing, fair enforcement, and promoting consumer protection and a competitive marketplace.The division values diversity, inclusiveness, and a respectful work environment, reflecting these principles across all agency levels and community interactions.About the Role:The Unit oversees the Board of Building Regulations and Standards (BBRS) and related subcommittees, including drafting and revising the Massachusetts Building Code, developing standards, licensing professionals, and enforcing regulations.The Associate Executive Director (AED) supports the Executive Director (ED) in administrative and regulatory functions, collaborates with boards and committees, and guides the drafting of building codes. The role demands attention to detail, regulatory proficiency, and effective communication skills.The AED manages meetings, prepares documentation, facilitates discussions, and ensures compliance with legal and procedural standards. The position involves administrative support, coordination with internal divisions, and may include running meetings and handling correspondence.Key Duties:

  • Assist with managing board and subcommittee meetings, including scheduling, agenda preparation, and documentation.
  • Support the drafting and revision of the Massachusetts Building Code, facilitating discussions and documenting changes.
  • Manage licensing, regulatory functions, and customer inquiries for the unit.
  • Assist with investigations, complaint reviews, and enforcement actions related to licensing and standards.
  • Recommend process improvements, review applications, and oversee continuing education for officials.
  • Act as records custodian, handle public records requests, and respond to inquiries from government entities and stakeholders.Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of Massachusetts building codes, safety standards, and related issues.
    • Management and supervisory experience, understanding of legislative and regulatory processes.
    • Excellent communication skills, ability to build relationships, and proficiency with relevant software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe).
