Central Vermont Medical Center, a leader in community-based healthcare and part of the esteemed University of Vermont Health Network, is excited to offer a Nursing Student Extern Program. This structured program is designed to provide nursing students with practical, hands-on experience in a hospital setting, while under the supervision of experienced nursing staff. Participants in the program will gain valuable insights into patient care, enhance their clinical skills, and integrate theoretical knowledge with real-life medical scenarios, preparing them for a seamless transition into the nursing profession. Assist nursing staff with the delivery of patient care under direct supervision. Perform health assessments and contribute to patient care planning and documentation. Administer medications and treatments as permitted by program guidelines. Participate in patient education and discharge planning. Attend and participate in educational workshops and in-service trainings. Ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures. Strong clinical skills and knowledge of patient care. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. High level of professionalism and ethical practice. Capable of critical thinking and problem-solving. Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required or must be obtained within the first month of the externship. Active enrollment in good standing in an accredited nursing program.
