The Department of Language & Culture Studies invites
applications for a temporary, full-time, one-year position in
Spanish, at theInstructor or Assistant Professorrank (depending
upon qualifications), for the 2021-22 academic year.
General Statement of Duties:
- This is a generalist position consisting of a 4/4-course
teaching load. The successful candidate is expected to do the
following: Prepare and deliver a variety of classes in the Spanish
major curriculum; Educate, engage, and retain students from diverse
backgrounds through innovative, inclusive pedagogy; and Integrate
easily into a small department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include but not limited to:
- Teach 4/4 course load in a variety of areas of the Spanish
major: elementary, intermediate, and advanced-level courses.
- Participate actively in the day-to-day running of the
department. Some of the duties associated with this responsibility
include, but are not limited to, the following: be available to
teach in a wide range of times and days during the week; maintain
open communication with colleague(s) and support staff;familiarize
quickly with, and perform, administrative work; and help organize
- Contribute in the recruitment of majors and minors through
excellence in teaching and building student rapport.
- Advise majors, minors, and undeclared students during the
- M.A. or Ph.D. in Spanish (or a related field).
- Experience teaching at the college level.
- Native or near-native fluency in both Spanish and English.
- Experience teaching online courses.
- Experience advising Spanish majors and minors.
For the majority of new employees, the minimum starting salary will
apply. Specific salary for current Westfield State University
employees and individuals currently working for the state of
Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with
collective bargaining and state policies and procedures.
