In collaboration with the Department Manager, the supervisor is responsible for participation in the interview and selection of department staff (professional and technical). For the first 6 months to one year based upon advancement with competencies, all staff newly hired will have a direct reporting relationship with the supervisor and Department Manager. This will facilitate continuous performance feedback for the new hires during the initial orientation phase and pivotal first year of employment at BH. In collaboration with the departement manager the supervisor is responsible for staff competence to ensure excellence in patient safety and quality, create a culture of safety and lead the development of Echocardiology. At Baystate Noble Hospital this clinical supervisor will oversee Echo, Stress, EKG and Cardiac Rehab. The overall outcome of professional development is the acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitudes that translate into practice and contribute to the safety of patients and provision of quality care. In addition to the acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitude, specialty excellence includes the evaluation and measurement of current clinical knowledge, proficiency of technical skills, application of critical thinking and performance by each member of the echo lab.The supervisor functions in a variety of roles throughout the Echo Department, including educator, facilitator, academic liaison, team member, and researcher.Adheres to system and departmental compliance policies, and any and all applicable laws and regulations.Performs duties as assigned.Job Responsibilities: 1)Demonstrates expert knowledge and skill in clinical specialtyPerforms diagnostic quality exams, in accordance to department policy and protocol. Demonstrates knowledge of equipment and optimizes equipment to enhance image quality. Actively seeks and is receptive to feedback from healthcare team in ways to improve quality and performance. Takes initiative in seeking educational resources for professional development and illustrates initiative, reliability and flexibility while performing duties.2)ECHO LAB DEVELOPMENT Ensures all competencies, clinical duties and functions are completed, dated, and filed. Provides education/training on all new equipment and validates each staff member. Develops protocols/procedures and serves as the expert for specific specialty protocols within the lab. The clinical supervisor will be the technical director for ICAL regional re-accreditation and be required to maintain QI.Responsible for staff scheduling and time requests. Will work with regional team members on regionalization including coverage for vacations and personal time. Responsible for equipment malfunctions and direct communication to engineers for needed repairs and safe operations.In partnership with the manager of operations Cardiac Care and metro-cardiac rehab manager, act as a liaison regarding the standardization of protocols/procedures and accreditation for this specific specialty.3)STAFF DEVELOPMENTIdentifies staff needs with regard to education and skill set. Works with Medical Leadership implementing education plans for development. Orient and mentor staff along with cardiology fellows. Instruct staff on job specifics and clinical technique, making available written instructions, manuals, and reference materials as needed.4)Reports directly to Department Manager:Performance, Progress and disciplinary issues.Runs monthly staff meetings communicating management/hospital decisions to the team.
